Introduction

The GUNDAM world isn't what it used to be. By 1994, 15 years after its inception, the enduringly successful science-fiction saga had spawned four television series, six movies and two video series, creating a richly detailed universe with an elaborate history and continuity. But for GUNDAM's 15th anniversary, Sunrise, the studio that holds the GUNDAM franchise, decided to set aside the established GUNDAM world and spin the saga off into a succession of alternate universes. (Only one GUNDAM production since then claims to hew to the original continuity - the ongoing 08TH MS TEAM video series.)
In the new scheme of things, a GUNDAM television series debuts every year with a new story, a new creative team, a new universe, and a whole new continuity. Since each of the creators Sunrise has tapped to launch a new GUNDAM series has taken an entirely different approach, watching GUNDAM has now become something like watching MTV; if this year's show stinks, then maybe the next one will be good. This year's model is MOBILE NEW CENTURY GUNDAM X, and we're here to help you decide if you should stay tuned or change the channel. (continued)
