![]() The holidays are a time to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family, and to reflect on what all this means. At least, that's what they're meant to be. If you're like most people I know, however, the holidays also amount to large amounts of running around shopping for gifts, sending cards, planning get-togethers, and generally running yourself ragged. So allow me to indulge my rampant sentimentality for the duration of this editorial. Several
people have responded to my statement in my last editorial that "And
I have seen too many friendships come to an end because of petty
anime-related bickering." What can I say? It's true. Maybe these weren't,
as some have suggested, the most rock-solid of relationships to begin with,
but still... I
consider myself fortunate that I have true and lasting friends, many of
whom I would not have met were it not for our common interest in anime. I
think that's one of the reasons that I continue to work on projects like
Anime Expo and EX--in many ways, it's for the friendship and the
people. Many--but certainly not all--of my closest friends are anime fans,
and I would never have met them were it not for this common "addiction" we
all share. A
little over six months ago, Keith and I decided that we would attempt a
second online anime magazine. (If you don't know what happened with the
first one, I'm not going to say. The past is the past). We gathered
together a small group of people and started out. Along the way, many of us
have become friends. Those of us that already were friends have grown
closer. And I'm glad. Of all the things that EX
has accomplished, what I am
most grateful for is the friendship that has grown from the work we have
done over the last seven months. Most
everyone has been very dedicated and worked hard to meet deadlines and
provide all the necessary materials to do a good job. I think that we are
allowed a little bit of pride in what we have accomplished. To the staff of
EX--the writers, editors, HTML
crew, and the contributors, I would like to
publicly say "thank you" for the hard work you've done. I continue to be
impressed by what we can do together. And
since we have been working so hard, I decided on the idea of a Holiday
Special issue. While not as large as a normal issue, there should be enough
information and entertainment to tide you readers over until my staff can
get some much-needed rest. The
support from our readers has been tremendous, and I really don't think
we could have run this long without all of the input and thanks we have
received. It is our hope that your holidays, whatever they may be, are safe
and happy. See you in 1997.
