Manga Picks
Charles: YOU AND ME. This
often-overlooked series is a delight, as Yuu
moves into his new apartment, only to find that he shares it with a ghost--a
young, cute female ghost! And his neighbors, including a masked lady
wrestler and a very scary looking shoujou manga artist.

Keith: GHOST IN THE SHELL (wideban).
This one's a bit old, but if you
watched the movie and found it lacking in its story, you may find the more
in-depth version of Masamune Shiro's vision to your liking.
 |

| Chad: 2001 NIGHTS.
Let everyone else rave about how awesome X:1999 is (and
deservedly so); I am going to reach back and pick this interesting
science fiction manga series. Fascinating premises told with strong art
styles and great intelligence. |

 |
Peter: Some back issues of DRAGONBALL.
I don't normally read it, but a friend
gave me some books to help me practice reading Japanese. They're great, but
I've jumped into the middle of a long story.
 |

 |
Roderick: Anyone familiar with my manga reviews has seen me allude to
VENUS WARS. Find out how Dark Horse did manga right
long before manga became a comics industry buzzword. Two great political intrigue stories, each
set in one of the two warring nations of Venus. The volume one graphic novel
(which features the general story line on
which the animated movie is based) was resolicited earlier this year. |

| Eugene: GON (Paradox Press).
If you're looking for a good gift item for an
anime fan, then GON could be it. You can pick up all
4 issues published by Paradox Press for about $24. |

 |
Ken: EVANGELION
(Import): Not the film comics but the original manga
series. They add just a tad bit more depth into the familiar story of
Shinji-kun, his toy robot and company.
 |

| Eri: Why not buy that special someone a subscription to
SHONEN SUNDAY,
SHONEN
JUMP, or any of the other periodicals? This way, that special
someone could follow a number of popular series all at once, and be able to
brag about knowing the ending to DRAGON QUEST
before anyone else in town.
Contact your local Japanese book supplier to see if you can't arrange a
subscription. Prices will probably depend on the current currency rates.

 |
Mark: NAUSICAÄ (Viz Manga) As the graphic
novels have finally caught up to the end of this great series, this is a great excuse
to pick up Miyazaki's epic work. |

 |
Chris: OH! MY
GODDESS subscription.
If there is a local comics store near where you live, you may want to ask
them for a subscription to this great series. Dark Horse has done a great
job with translating this ever popular story, and with new mini-series
coming in the next few months like THE ROBOT WARS
and THE TRIALS OF MORISATO it couldn't be a better time. |

 |
Tom: X
#1. For one reason or another, the first volume of
this awesome manga is missing from my collection. At this point, I think
the only person who can help me now is Santa. |

 |
Eugene Moon: GUNSMITH CATS
(Dark Horse) A manga by Sonoda Kenichi, character
designer for BUBBLEGUM CRISIS. Above average translation
work by Dark Horse.
