This isn't ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Written by the crew of CLAMP,
MIYUKI-CHAN IN WONDERLAND is a very twisted version of the famous tale.
Almost over spiced with sexual innuendo and related comedy, one wonders not
so much why this was written as why the writing doesn't even come near
previous CLAMP work.
In the
first half of the OVA, Miyuki wakes up from a bad dream to
find herself late in getting ready for school. With a dash out the door,
she runs down the street and ends up falling down a dark hole with a girl
on a skateboard dressed in a sexy bunny outfit. After finally gaining
entrance to a strange world through a well-endowed door, she has encounters
with the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat (voiced by Orikasa "Ryoko" Ai), and an
S&M version of the Queen of Hearts -- all of whom happen to be women who
want to seduce Miyuki in a bad way.
Later,
she gets pulled into Mirrorland by her own reflection and
runs into another horde of females -- a beautiful harpy, a few sprites, and
Humpty Dumpty, to name a few. Eventually she is called upon to play chess
where the all-female pieces get taken off the board by being slapped, stripped,
and left to run off in shame.
The animation
was decent, but not spectacular, the voice acting was
above average, and the subtitles were accurate and well-timed. The plot, however, fell short.
Some of the scenes were humorous enough to get a chuckle out of me a few
times, such as when Miyuki gets pushed through the door. An even
better scene is when Miyuki is trying to figure out the penalty of the
chess game.
Still, all
I can really say to describe it is that it was lacking a decent plot. Perhaps a better title would have been
"Miyuki-chan being seduced by women
who just happen to play the parts of ALICE IN WONDERLAND characters". Not
to say that this tape is just low-grade porn, because it isn't. With the exception of a few seconds,
there is no nudity whatsoever in the film. It just seemed that it was a
bit of a waste in not having a coherent plot. In comparison to just about
any CLAMP animation done that I've run across, I haven't seen this low a
level of quality before. Still, if one is really in the mood to see this, I
suggest it be rented rather than bought.
