JIGOKU SENSEI NU-BE-
story by Makura Shou, art by Okano Takeshi
Started in #38, 1993 (27 volumes available)

Overview: Nueno Meisuke, known as Nu-be-, is a teacher with strong psychic powers and the left hand of an oni (one form of Japanese devils). He uses his Buddhism knowledge and sometimes his oni hand to protect his students. His "weird" friends include Yukime the snow- queen, Tamamo the nine-tailed werefox, and Izuna, a shaman-to-be.
In this update: Tamamo realizes that his time limit for completing his humanization spell is fast approaching. With Tsuwabukimaru, a young werefox worried about Tamamo's well-being, the doctor heads out to the school to get Hiroshi's skull necessary for completing the spell. While fighting, Tsuwabukimaru aims for Hiroshi's head; but Tamamo saves Hiroshi and tells Tsuwabukimaru he had associated with humans for too long. The young werefox replies that the incomplete spell will soon destroy Tamamo. Giving up, Tamamo tells Meisuke to remember him and flies off. Meisuke and his class later find him half-dead wandering in the streets. Now, the only one that can save Tamamo is Konmougyokumenkyuubi, lord of the werefoxes. Meisuke carries Tamamo into the caverns where he finds a large old-style mansion, where a withered old nine-tailed fox tells Meisuke that while he can revive Tamamo, he can't accept the fact that a werefox was trying to become human. Meisuke tries to convince the nine-tailed werefox that humans have evil sides but they have good sides as well. Konmougyokumenkuubi decides to test that on Meisuke with an illusion; unfortunately, Meisuke unknowingly shows the ugly side of humans—selfishness, envy, and hatred, so the werefox lord concludes that Meisuke was not worth listening to. He attacks, but Tamamo jumps in front of Meisuke to deflect the blow, much to the surprise of both Meisuke and Konmougyokumenkyuubi. The fox god realizes that the power he fears is growing in Tamamo, and tests them by sealing the two into an adventure bottle. Tamamo shows great power in protecting Meisuke in their trek to the bottle's exit. Konmougyokumenkyuubi grants Tamamo life again, realizing that the power he feared—that of humans caring for others—was steadily growing within Tamamo, and that this power could save the werefoxes somewhere down the road.
The class wants to know how Nu-be- became strong. Meisuke starts telling of a time when he met someone stronger than he, and how he learned much training under him. Meisuke believes that this teacher was a great man, and is doing good for mankind somewhere—what he doesn't know was that the teacher was his father, the man that Meisuke hated more than anyone else.
Minki pulls Meisuke around for the ride of his life. Meisuke realizes after they have a huge fight that Minki was just lonely because she missed her two brothers (of which one was Meisuke's left hand). Hiroshi wakes up shrunk, but manages to get to Kyoko's house. The next day, Kyoko takes the shrunken Hiroshi to class—to tell the little one that he was a fairy created from the real Hiroshi's blood. Meisuke suggests removing the fairy's memory, but Kyoko realizes when the little Hiroshi saved her from getting bitten by a rabid dog that the little one was Hiroshi too. The class decides to make a fairy out of Kyoko's blood so the two can go off to the wilderness together.
A new character begins the episode by slashing a few creatures and tricks the kids into putting ofuda tags all over the school. The guy, Cailung Yang, wants vengeance against all supernatural creatures and wanted Meisuke's oni hand to exterminate anything in his way. Yukime, who just happened to be at school, tries to protect Meisuke, but gets attacked with fire. Meisuke unleashes his oni hand to save Yukime, and Cailung uses this chance to take the hand—and give Meisuke a cat's paw.

HARELUYA II BØY
by Umezawa Haruto
Started in #50, 1992 (31 volumes available)

Overview: The adventures of Hibino Hareluya, the "invincible man" whose back seemingly carries a serious arsenal of weapons, and his friends Ichijyou Makoto (a rocker), Okamoto Kiyoshirou (an aspiring artist), and Yamana Michiru (Kiyoshirou's girlfriend). In the latest story arc, Kiyoshirou decides to go to France to study art, and Michiru decides to take him on a trip to Kyoto with Hareluya and Makoto. But trouble strikes wherever Hareluya goes.
In this update: The photo lab guy tells the heroes that the picture of the Three Eyes was taken most likely under Gojyou Oohashi. The heroes reach the bridge. Hareluya runs over to fight Kyu who is smashing cars on top of the bridge, while Kiyoshirou and Makoto jump down the guardrail meet the others. Meanwhile, on top of the bridge, Kyu and Hareluya are still duking it out. While Hareluya mangages to slam Kyu's bald head into the rear windshield of a minivan, Suu uncovers their van while chuckling that cops never found it. They open the back door to throw Michiru in, exposing three gagged and chained naked girls. Zoo comments, "I'm getting tired of Kyoto, too." Cops arrive at the bridge, and Hareluya jumps down to meet the others. Michiru comes to and runs away—into Kiyoshirou's arms. He tells her to run, and tackles Suu, saying he will not lose against such losers. The tackle sends Suu straight to a wall, knocking him out. Zoo repeatedly kicks Kiyoshirou, and shoves his face into the river's current. Hareluya runs in and kicks Zoo's head, and the final round begins. Hareluya seems to take the upper hand with his frying pan, but the group is met by the van driven by Suu. The van drives off, but Hareluya has an idea to pursue them. Makoto finds a scooter that Hareluya threw over the side when he was fighting Kyu. Makoto and Hareluya speed after the van on the scooter. Kiyoshirou and Michiru are met by the cop that they met earlier, who tells Kiyoshirou to safely escort Michiru home. The two decide to rest for a bit. Meanwhile, the scooter catches sight of the van.

JOJO NO KIMYOU NA BOUKEN
by Araki Hirohiko
Started in #1/2, 1987 (60 volumes available)

Overview, part V ("GIOGIO", started #52, 1995): Giorno is an aspiring gangster in Italy. He joins a gang filled with strange people (you guessed it, Stand users). His first big job is to rescue the Boss's daughter Trish, and bring her back to him. But the job became much more than that... What secrets does the Boss hide?
In this update: Pucharatti jumps into the street, and is "saved" by Doppio; Pucharatti thinks the young man is Trish. Mista overhears Trish telling Giorno that she feels the Boss nearby. Boss then tells Doppio to fool Pucharatti into guiding him into whoever they are planning to meet. A long narration reveals that the Boss' real name is Diabolo, and that he stole the Arrows when they were first excavated. Pucharatti, still fooled, tells Doppio to go upstairs, and informs Polnaref that he has arrived to seek information about how to defeat the Boss. Jean-Pierre replies that he doesn't have any data on Doppio that is next to him. Pucharatti says that "Trish" is their ally. Polnaref asks "Trish" to show "her" Stand. The Boss, through Pucharatti's eyes, sees the <Arrow> and panics because he thought he had already killed Jean-Pierre (a flashback shows <King Crimson> cutting Polnaref, who realizes that Diabolo had a time-controlling Stand). Polnaref gets a bad hunch about who the "friend" was when he disappears. Giorno realizes that Polnaref entered the range for <King Crimson>; Diabolo has now climbed up to Polnaref's line of sight, and takes off his "Doppio" costume. Diabolo attacks, but Polnaref releases <Silver Chariots>, using his blood dripping from his finger as a way to measure how much time got "cut away". Polnaref is able to wound Diabolo, but not enough to kill him. He knows that there is no next time, and wonders how to keep Hope alive. Diabolo sprays his blood onto Polnaref's eyes. Diabolo reaches for the final blow, but notices that the Arrow had stabbed <Silver Chariots>, and was causing it to melt. A shadow approaches Diabolo and manages to get the Arrow out of the Boss' hands. As the shadow walks by, everyone starts getting sleepy and collapses. Trish and Giorno wake up six hours later, but something is wrong. They look at Mista and Narancha who also woke up—to realize that they had swapped bodies during the six or seven hours that they were asleep. They realize their Stands work better than ever as one result of the body-switches. While they wonder about who switched bodies with Pucharatti, Polnaref appears to them—as the turtle they have been carrying. The turtle tells the tale of when he accidentally pierced his Stand with the Arrow. and that the power eminating as a result was the hope in defeating Diabolo. Diabolo's body wakes up, and finds the shadow that is the new form of <Silver Chariots>. He uses his Stand to reveal that Pucharatti ended up in Diabolo's body. But all attacks to no avail--the new "Requiem" form of <Chariots> bounces all Stand attacks back to its use. While they wonder what to do, the Pucharatti's body (inhibited by Doppio, Diabolo, or both) starts to get up.
