A Message from the Editor
EX is read by a lot of people. A whole lot of people, and that's a good
thing. That's what a Publisher and Editor in Chief of a magazine wants. Why
do a magazine if no one bothers to read it?
Today I was contacted by A.D. Vision about the editorial that originally
ran in this space, entitled RETAILERS GET TEKKEN. Immediately I thought,
"Uh oh, Charles… What did you do now?"
After talking with them, I realized that the information that I had been
receiving about the performance of TEKKEN is not the same as the
information getting back to A.D. Vision. Apparently, inaccurate information
about the return rate for this title has been circulating. And of course,
these rumors lead people to make up their minds that it would sell poorly
before even giving it a chance, prompting a higher number of returns.
I am awaiting more information from A.D. Vision regarding this issue. In
the meantime, since I no longer am convinced that what I had said initially
is accurate, I have chosen to take down the old editorial and replace it
with this. While perhaps not as glib or well-written, it at least offers
some explanation of what's happened. After all, if the editorial just
disappeared, it would look rather strange, wouldn't it?
Since I know many of the folks at A.D. Vision after working with them for
so long, I wasn't really threatened or bothered by their call. Instead,
what struck me was how quick they were to respond, and to ask for our help
in trying to track down where this information is coming from.
EX prides itself on the favorable relations it maintains with anime
companies both in the United States and in Japan, and we certainly do not
want to do anything to damage these relationships that took years to build.
I have not been threatened or coerced into doing this, and I look forward
to continuing to work with A.D. Vision and all the other anime companies
out there that are striving to bring anime into the lives and homes of
people in the United States. After all, that's the common goal that we all
share, isn't it?
Ex animo,
