Followup to the previous review in EX 3.6:

This last volume in the BASTARD!! OVA series contains the last two episodes, "Thunder Empress Arshes Nei" and "The Return of Dark Schneider." Things have been building for some time and now, in an attempt to destroy Dark Schneider, his ex-lover Arshes Nei challenges him to a life-or-death duel. Dark Schneider doesn't see why she turned against him, and he doesn't appear all that interested. The last episode of the series features the final battle as Abigail, the remaining member of the Four Lords of Havoc, attempts to take over the kingdom of Ansla-Sax. Things look hopeless for Meta-Rikana.
The ending is something of a surprise, and it promises more. In fact, the end doesn't really feel like "the end" at all. But no more episodes have been produced in Japan, so we just have to accept the fact that the series leaves a lot of things open-ended rather than having definite closure.
The animation quality is the same as it has been since the beginning of the series, which is consistently high. The magical attacks are beautifully executed, and the fight scenes are both dramatic and beautifully drawn. The overall quality of this OVA series remains high right until the end credits roll.
