Followup to the previous review
in EX 3.6:
I will probably have to disagree a bit with our previous review of BATTLE ATHLETES in
terms of it being a shoujo show (or aimed for young girls). After watching
through the series, I find it a light comic story with a variety of
characters, much like TENCHI MUYO and EL HAZARD.
These last two episodes of the OVA series deal with the Great Competition
for the title of Cosmic Beauty. Will Lahrri win for the 3rd year in a row?
Will Mylandah take the crown through hook or by crook? Or do our heroes
Akari and Kris have a chance against the odds?
The production values have remained high throughout these volumes, and the
DVD version I previewed was a relatively solid DVD offering. The lack of a
episode jump option from the main menu was minorly annoying, and on my
player switching between menu options was a painfully slow process, but
overall the video and sound quality is great.
My only real problem with the series throughout all the volumes is
Mylandah's true vengeful evilness that shows her to be a flat character
with no purpose other than to cause dangerous problems for our
protagonists. Other than that the characters are likable and have a enough
depth for an interesting mix, and I am interested in seeing how BATTLE
ATHLETES VICTORY (the TV series) does with a larger cast of characters
and longer plotline.
