YU-GI-OH!
by Takahashi Kazuki
Started in #42, 1996 (13 volumes available)

Overview: Life for Yuugi, a shy high-school boy, changed when he finished solving the Millenium Puzzle, a 3D jigsaw puzzle that took him 8 years to solve. From that day on, he developed a second "dark" personality that challenged any wrongdoers to a Shadow Game where losing meant more than just losing a game. Now, Yuugi sets out with his friends to battle Pegasus, the creator of the hit card game Magic & Wizards, to save the soul of his grandfather. Yuugi is one game away now, but Pegasus has the upper hand in the duel with his Toon deck. What can he do to survive?
This Issue—Battle 127: The Challenge to the Impossible!! - Pegasus pulls out his Toon World card, and the Toon Dragon Egger defeats Yuugi's Boulder Soldier. Yuugi tries to attack the Toon Mermaid with an Elven Swordsman. The Swordsman cannot damage a Toon character, and falls to the Mermaid. Yuugi, left with 1400LP, wonders if he has a chance now that his mind is read by Pegasus' Millenium Eye and his attacks are all nullified by Toon World. He puts an Imp on defense, but Pegasus releases the Gorgon's Eye trap card—a permanent trap card that petrifies any defensive monster. Pegasus then uses a Copycat card to create a Toon Demon from Yuugi's dead Demon's Summon card. The Toon Demon defeats the Imp, and Yuugi is left with 900LP. Yuugi pulls his Black Magician from the pile. Pegasus laughs and asks if Yuugi wants to give up. Yuugi refuses to give up, and puts down the Magical Silk Hat with the Magician. Pegasus laughs again, saying that he knows where the Magician is hidden... but the Toon Demon misses. Pegasus looks in shock... but now sitting in front of him was the normal Yuugi, who tells Pegasus that he only read Dark Yuugi's mind.

HOUSHIN ENGI
by Fujisaki Ryu, based on the translation by Anou Tsutomu
Started in #28, 1996 (14 volumes available)

Overview: Taikoubou is a sennin (a wizard of sorts) sent on a mission to seal away the souls of the evil temptress Datsuki and her henchmen. She is ruining the land of Chouka by controlling its king. But this project, called the Houshin Project, had to do with much more than just Datsuki's whims. Now, the sennin of Kongrong must settle a final score with their long-time rivals from Kingou.
This Issue—Episode 136: Death Battle II ~ Fugenshinjin - Taikoubou remembers when he was fishing with Fugen long ago. He stabs himself with his Dashinben to keep himself from falling prey to the sleeping pills Fugen fed him. Meanwhile, Bunchu arrives at where Fugen is, and asks for Taikoubou. Fugen asks if there was a peaceful solution. Bunchu decides to lend an ear. Fugen asks to put their powers together to defeat Datsuki together. Bunchu replies that all he cares about is the Ying Dynasty and that his true intent was for Kongrong and Kingou to annihilate each other. Shinkouhyou looks over the proceedings from afar, and muses that Bunchu will win because he is basically strong enough to counter all of Kongrong's Juunisen (top 12 warriors of Kongrong). But it was to be decided whether or not the "guidepost to history" pointed to Bunchu. Fugen releases his powers to repel attacks, but finds out his powers are not enough to repel Bunchu's attacks.
