Anime Expo 1999 (continued)
The Masquerade

The most highly anticipated event every year is the Masquerade. This year,
with a new ticketing procedure and the promise of a hotel television
simulcast, seating seemed to proceed more smoothly than usual.
However, after that, the technical problems began, and the Masquerade wound
up starting nearly two hours late. Some fans became disgruntled and unhappy
with the long wait, but some fans remained patient and calm and tried to
while away the time as best they could.
The masquerade saw a host of elaborate costumes, including the giant PenPen
that's been making the rounds to conventions and even a Giant Robo costume.
Skits were once again in vogue, and this year seemed to have a very high
proportion of singing, lip synching, and dancing routines. This year had
more entrants than in any previous year, and the fans who found the
patience to sit through the delays were pleased in the end.
