Vol. 8 "Summoning Suzaku"
by Charles McCarter
Followup to the previous
review in EX 4.3:
Pioneer continues its release of fan favorite FUSHIGI YUGI with this volume. A turning point
in the series, as the time has finally come for Miaka to summon
Suzaku. But with so many problems and so few wishes, she faces
some very tough choices. The kingdom needs to be protected, she
wants Tamahome with her, and of course, she desperately wants to
restore her fractured friendship with Yui.
This is one of the more dramatic portions of the series,
and the emotional tension that has been building up comes to a
head. The storytelling is powerful and, if you have been
following the series this far, you've probably become attached to
the characters and will be moved by Miaka's plight.
The animation quality remains the same, which means
better in some spots than in others, but overall it's okay. The
music is also the same, and is really nothing spectacular. The
quality of the subtitles and the dubbing is consistent with the
rest of the series, so there are no unexpected unpleasant
surprises here.
Definitely worth a purchase if you're a FUSHIGI YUGI fan. Or, if you can wait, the DVD Box should be coming very soon.
