Montly Afternoon briefs (continued)

MUGEN NO JUUNIN (BLADE OF THE IMMORTAL)
by Samura Hiroaki

Overview: Manji is currently calling a sort of peace treaty and is teaming up with Magatsu Taito in a journey to Kaga to defeat Shira. However, Shira was waiting them with a new weapon embedded in what was his right arm (which Manji had sliced off)...
This issue: Manji notes to Taito that Shira is still not used to one-arm combat, and that Taito still has a chance in the woods where ground is soft. Manji leaves, and on his way gets ambushed by a group of thugs who repeatedly stab him to keep him from going on his way. Taito tracks Shira down into a little hut. Shira laughs and tells Taito that Anotsu is in trouble back in Kaga (all the while idly wondering if the thugs were able to stop Manji from going on his way). Taito attacks, and the two get involved in a fast-paced swordmatch.

SERAPHIC FEATHER
by Takeda Toshiya and Utatane Hiroyuki

Overview: The Diskartz succeeds in getting an anti-UN group on the moon to gain control over the entire satellite. Mazak, Kei and Sunao set out back to accompany Dr. Hydeman back to Earth, but in the shuttle headed for Earth, they are assaulted by the Diskartz.
This issue: Anthony, an agent for Diskartz, is assaulted and heavily wounded by Stray, a fellow agent who has a fetish for people in pain (and dislikes Anthony to boot). Just before giving Anthony the final blow, Stray runs off when he hears footsteps. The footsteps were those of Sunao, Kei and company; Kei tells the group to treat his wounds. Sunao offers to get the first aid kit from the lifeboat (where they were going to hide, and Kei offers to come with him). Neither of them know that Anthony is one of their enemies...

JIRAISHIN (ICE BLADE)
by Takahashi Tsutomu

Overview: In the last story arc of the series, "LIFE," a shooting spree at the wedding of Aizawa Eriko (Kyouya/Ky's current partner) has left her new husband dead, alongside the corpse of Narita Atsuko who jumped in to cover for the newlyweds. The ex-chief of the homicidal division decides to honor his daughter's wish to be an organ donor...and her heart gets implanted into Amami Kei, an assassin.
This issue: Kei puts herself into a trance to get to the bottom of the emergence of a compassionate self. There, she sees a vision of Atsuko and Kyouya talking in a church. Meanwhile, the doctor who gave Kei the transplant asks Nakahara for advice on whether or not a donor's conscience can enter the recipient. In a counseling session, Kei asks the two doctors who her donor is. The doctors agree that they can't tell her; she replies that someone named Astuko had died the day before her operation. Kei starts to snoop around the Narita family for clues about her possible donor, and sees Kyouya eating dinner with the old chief. Just then, Nakahara enters the restaurant and explains that she was an old friend that was recently stalking him. After the dinner, Eriko and Kyouya corner Nakahara where he basically admits that Kei is the recipient of Atsuko's heart. The next day, Kei shows up at the police station to talk to Kyouya.

DISCOMMUNICATION
by Ueshiba Reach

Overview: The strange world for Matsubue Takaomi just gets stranger with each story arc. This time around, "Seirei" (spirits) have appeared in front of him, and opened the door to a dream world where imagination can change even reality.
This issue: As Takaomi walks about on his evening stroll, he bumps into the ghost of a toy soldier. The ghost is very surprised that Takaomi can see him, and asks him to blow out the candle in his lamp because beings like it will soon pass by, and some of the ghosts are very shy. Takaomi realizes that it was a routine procession of ghosts when the toy soldier tells him that all the ghosts were guardians of a priestess in the castle. The soldier offers to have Takaomi meet the priestess, and takes him to the castle. Inside the castle, the little priestess asks why people fall in love. As Takaomi thinks, the castle blurs, and he is woken up by a scantily and strangely clad girl next to a giant art monument of old toys. As Takaomi realizes where the toys came from, the girl, named Yoshimoto Tsugumi, explains how the monument came about, and that she was the leader of the monument-building project. She then bikes off, chased by her parents who tell Takaomi that she had woken up for the first time in an entire month (and was therefore dazed enough to dress so strangely). Meanwhile, Tohko hears that Tsugumi woke up, and calls Arika, saying that she wants Arika to meet Tsugumi.
