![]() by the EX Staff Don't know what to get that special anime fan on your list? Looking to suck up to the EX staff? We've got some suggestions about what to get the anime fan in your life. Below are some suggestions for just about every category we could think of, from domestic anime to import CDs to the always-amusing Miscellaneous category (which seems to have been taken over by action figures this year.) First, we have import anime!
Tom Larsen: KAMIKAZE KAITO JEANNE TV. I hope I didn't miss my chance to pick up the first LDs! Eric "Scanner" Luce: BLUE SUBMARINE NO. 6, episode 4! This series is fairly short and intense. I wonder how they can wrap it up well in the next episode. Maybe it will just have a luke-warm ending but we will not know until it comes out. We all want to know what happened to Myuutio? Will anything come of the possible relationship between Mayumi and Hayami? Will Hayami get to meet Zorndyke and what will that meeting be like? Inquiring minds want to know! Kenneth Lee: RUROUNI KENSHIN ~TSUIOKU-HEN~ OVAs #1-4 DVDs w/ Limited Edition Box Set. This isn't like the Kenshin you knew before! Taking place before he became a rurouni (wandering samurai), this is about the origins of Kenshin, when he was the Hitokiri Battousaithe most lethal assassin in Japan. Featuring some of the most beautiful animation ever produced, with ultra-violent fight scenes (not gratuitous), and powerful, complex character relationships, this is a tribute to "classic Japanese Samurai cinema." Mark Johnson: The NADESICO: PRINCE OF DARKNESS Movie. If this is accompanied by a Region-2 capable DVD player I'd go for the DVD version, but the LD version is perfectly fine by me. The movie itself is a must for any NADESICO fan. The booklet in the limited edition print is a nice extra too. Though the TAIHO SHICHAZU ZO (YOU'RE UNDER ARREST) Movie is very tempting too... Kenneth Cho: WINGS OF HONNEAMISE DVD. Out with the old, in with the new. The Memorial DVD box may have come and gone but the movie release is still available and perfect for those of us who are either too lazy to flip laserdiscs or don't want to listen to Manga Entertainment's dub. Too bad they're still charging laserdisc prices for DVDs in Japan. Ivevei Upatkoon: KIMAGURE ORANGE ROAD LD Box Set. It's been a decade an a half since this series first started, but it still has big place in my heart. AnimEigo released KOR as a subbed LD package last year (three cheers!) but for the real fan there is naught but the Japanese box set. You can find these used but in excellent condition around Tokyo for about ¥60,000. If only I had ¥60,000. Eugene Moon: MAISON IKKOKU LD Box Set. Out of print but still in our hearts. This charming romantic comedy is consistently quality stuff (as opposed to RANMA 1/2) and well worth having, even in used form. The Big O Copyright © Sunrise.
