Shonen Sunday Briefs (continued)
TENSHI NA NAMAIKI ("A CHEEKY ANGEL")
by Nishimori Hiroyuki

Overview: As a young boy, Amatsuka Megumi was magically
transformed into a pretty girl. Now a totally gorgeous high school
student, s/he and friend Miki are the only ones who know this, and
are busy fending off his/her admirers.
This issue: Megumi and Kaizou have gone fishing,
with Kaizou failing to act as a knight in shining armor as he watches
Megumi fend off accidents and near-misses. But now he's decided that
this expedition counts as their first "date" (which Megumi is not at
all happy about). Kobayashi appears at just the right moment to fend
off another disaster and to destroy the notion that this is a "date."
Soon, all three are adrift in Tokyo Bay, on a raft-like piece of
pier. Kaizou suddenly realizes that something strange is going on.
Ever since they had argued with the evil spirit that had originally
turned Megumi into a girl, things were getting more and more
dangerous. Was Megumi really cursed by that spirit?
KARAKURI CIRCUS
by Fujita Kazuhiro

Overview: Masaru is a grade school boy who is the heir to
a vast fortune. Shirogane, a French woman who controls a powerful
puppet, is his bodyguard. Far away, their friend Narumi is becoming
embroiled in an ancient battle against evil living puppets.
This issue: Narumi, before departing from the
hospital, heard from little Tom about the Midnight Circus. While
fallen over and suffering at the circus, a living puppet
photographer came, took photos, and mocked the children. Narumi,
Lucille, and Guy travel on. This time, Narumi has a feel for where
to find the automata, and the others must follow him. Moreover,
Narumi's hatred for the puppets has grown to the point where he is
willing to lose his own humanity, his own soul, to fight them. Back
in Japan, Masaru and friends are suffering from the lack of sleeping
space on the trucks (what with the men fighting each other and
drunken Vilma trying to get too cozy with Shirogane). Masaru,
however, discovers an ad for a "beach queen" contest, where the
prize is a new four-wheel drive truck....
KAZE NO DENSHOUSHA (THE WIND OF FIGHT)
by Yamamoto Satoshi and Wakakuwa Kazuto

Overview: Fuuga Ippei is the lone boy in a martial arts
family of girls. As such, his strong-willed sisters treat him like
dirt, yet they are trying to train him to be a man worthy of
carrying on the family's school of fighting. The series now takes a
turn to the supernatural....
This issue: Ippei has successfully fought the
Taito's champion, Akino Takehiko, in a combat of "meaning" vs.
sheer "destruction." But Takehiko's evil teacher (at one point
reduced to a talking head without a body) warns of upcoming
battles with demons. Time passes; a cult-like gathering seeks the
favors of a "goddess" of beauty, Kuki Bidou. Bidou appears to be
a beautiful woman who hasn't changed in 30 years, but she warns
her followers of enemies... Fuuga and Taito. Bidou, though,
secretly turns out to have horns like a Japanese ogre, and she
blames Fuuga and Taito for her eternal pain and she sees them as
the enemy of the Kutou school. Her son Rei, after dispatching some
nosy reporters, wishes to meet them. Back at the Fuuga dojo, Chiaki
has taken over cooking and Ippei is in training. Ippei momentarily
senses an enemy, but sees nothing; he doesn't notice that Rei has
arrived....
TUXEDO GIN
by Matsuura Tokihiko

Overview: Kusanagi Ginji is a young man in love with
Sasebo Minako, who also loves him. Due to a fatal motorcycle
incident, Ginji is reborn as a penguin and now must live out
his natural life as Minako's pet before he can return to his
body....
This issue: Ginji had temporarily entered a
weird state where he switches between human and penguin form with
no warning; worse, all his friends seem to be leaving him. Knowing
that if Minako figures out who he is that all bets are off, he
tried to avoid her but she saw him... except, has she really? She
seems oblivious to what she saw. He returns home as a penguin and
is so relaxed that he accidentally replies when she calls him by
his human name. Ginji flees again, vowing to not return until he's
human again. Little does he know that Kurosaki, the man who killed
him in the motorcycle "accident," is on the loose and is seeking
Minako....
