At the U.S. box office, 1999 was a remarkable
year for anime, with three feature-length anime motion pictures
released theatrically. Based on the continuing success of the genre,
anime companies are continuing their plans for theatrical releases in
the year 2000. Two U.S. anime companies will
enter the fray with their first big-screen releases. And there are
many more in store in Japan. Charles McCarter takes a look as anime
goes to the movies, in Anime Films 2000.
