EX:clusive feature Anime Films 2000

...continued from previous page

Bebopin' Along
Since almost everyone who is slated to work on this feature is already working on the ESCAFLOWNE movie, the progress for the COWBOY BEBOP movie is not moving as fast as anime fans would like. However, we know for sure that the BEBOP movie won't be a complete retelling of the original story, unlike ESCAFLOWNE. Instead, it will focus on a period that takes place between episodes 22 (Cowboy Funk) and 23 (Brain Scratch) and will provide a new, never-before-seen story.
Of course, since the movie will fall directly into the television series timeline, there is speculation about just how much can be done with the designs and the story. And there is even greater speculation about the film being able to meet a 2000 release.

Goddess On A Mountaintop
One other movie that fans have been long awaiting is the return to anime of everyone's favorite goddessess—Belldandy, Urd, and Skuld. Little is being said about the production of this anticipated film, and people involved in the production will only say that "it's a secret."
OVA character designer Matsubara Hidenori returns as the character designer and animation director for the film. The film is scheduled to be released in Japan sometime in 2000.

The Beginning
2000 is shaping up to be another big year for anime films, both in the United States and in Japan. However, only time will tell which of these films are hits, which are misses, and which will even make it out of the gate on time and meet their release dates. After all, delays are certainly not uncommon in the industrys.
However, anime fans have a lot to look forward to if they can stand the wait. In the meantime, though, they will just have to content themselves with the videos (and now DVDs) that have always been the mainstay of the anime fan's diet.
