ONE PIECE
by Oda Eiichiro
Started in #34, 1997 (11 volumes available)

Overview: Monkey D. Luffy is a boy set out to sail the Grand Line, find the legendary treasure One Piece and become the king of pirates. His small crew consists of swordsman Roronoa Zorro, navigator/cartographer Nami, gunner "Captain" Usopp and chef Sanji. These five, after an eventful stop at Logue Town, manage to get themselves on the Grand Line, a navigational route where anything can happen. At the second stop, Little Garden, the group meets the two giants of Elbuff who have been sparring with each other for an entire century. However, the agents of Baroque Works manage to sabotage a peace offering from Luffy's crew and skews the deadlocked battle one way, all while Luffy is stuck under a boulder...
This Issue—Episode 120: The Red Demon Cried - The century-long battle comes to an end as Dolly falls to Brogy's axe attack. There, Mr.3 chuckles that Brogy has already fallen to his powers. Usopp stands up to protect Vivi. Luffy notices shadows coming out of the forest—Mr.5 and Miss Valentine are back, with Vivi's bird Karuu. Usopp and Vivi fight the two officers from Baroque Works, but prove to be no match for the Devil Nut-powered officers. Mr.5 tells Vivi that they were only there to capture her, on order from Mr.3—the Candle Man who ate the DleDle Nut and who can create and shape wax into whatever form he pleases.

I"S
by Katsura Masakazu
Started in #19, 1997 (12 volumes available)

Overview: This is a story about Seto Ichitaka and his love life. Ichitaka and Iori had overcome their doubts to have a wonderful relationship. However, with Iori's workload increasing, and her agent not wanting Ichitaka as her boyfriend, things were getting shaky. Ichitaka was starting to feel more comfortable with his new neighbor Iko (or rather, Aiko) while Iori seemed to be happier with a costar in Ichitaka's eyes. The agent approaches Ichitaka with a plan to go on a "secret" date with Iori...
This Issue—Episode 128. A Fun Day - Ichitaka gets nervous as he gets ready for the first official date with Iori, and secretly wishes Iko good luck with her long-distance boyfriend who was supposed to visit that day. Ichitaka's date gets off to a bad start as he spots Iori surrounded by fans who want an autograph—and he has to call her cell phone to tell her he will wait in the theater. It gets even worse, as the movie was long and it couldn't hold Ichitaka's interest (he fell asleep for most of it), and fans kept accosting Iori wherever they went. The only option for dinner was food from a convenience store eaten atop a pedestrian bridge. Ichitaka's frustration bursts out and he tells Iori that he didn't go to the movies to help Iori learn how to act, and why she can't forget work for one day. He continues by asking if the movie was recommended by the guy Iori was with at the studio the day before, and he lies that he knew she went off with that guy. Ichitaka loses it upon realizing that, from Iori's reaction, his lie wasn't exactly a lie. He screams that while he had thought she was just too busy, she had time to see other guys, that he didn't feel like listening to her anymore. He runs off. Returning to the apartment upset about the possibility of Iori cheating on him, Ichitaka wonders how he and Iori really feel about each other. He looks over towards Iko's apartment, wondering if she was having a good time with her boyfriend, when he notices her waiting outside. Ichitaka asks Iko what was wrong, and she replies that her boyfriend never showed up....

HOUSHIN ENGI
by Fujisaki Ryu, based on the translation by Anou Tsutomu
Started in #28, 1996 (17 volumes available)

Overview: Taikoubou is a sennin (a wizard of sorts) sent on a mission to seal away the souls of the evil temptress Dakki and her henchmen because she is ruining the land of Chouka by controlling its emperor. This project, called the Houshin Project, is more than meets the eye—but the project is slowly nearing completion. Taikoubou's Paopei (magical weapon of sorts), the Dashinben, gets an upgrade; but when he rejoins his troops in the final battle against Chouka, a "modified" version of Chuuou, the king, was waiting along with Dakki and her sisters. Chuuou seems to be possessed by a powerful spirit . Can Taikoubou and his troupe of sennin defeat Dakki's entourage—and Joka, the powerful mastermind entity who lurks in the shadows behind the temptress?
This Issue—Episode 168: Battle on the Prairie part 7 ~ Chuuou Finds Loneliness on the Prairie - As Youzen and Nataku try to lure Chuuou while protecting an innocent human village, Tenka stands up against the possessed king. Tenka, wielding his paopei (or should I say lightsaber?) manages to lock Chuuou inside a boulder, and tells the king that nobody thinks of him as king anymore. Chuuou scoffs Tenka's comment and takes in the boulder around him to turn into a giant golem, but Tenka continues that all of Chuuou's followers have long since left him. Chuuou looks over and sees his people calling him a monster. Taikoubou gets up and tells Chuuou to look at his feet, at the corpses of his own people that he stomped to death. The rocks around Chuuou's body starts to crumble, and the king asks for Dakki's help. When all the rocks fall to the ground, the group sees the king curled up on the ground.
