Following the heels of its predecessor W, AFTER WAR GUNDAM X bore an even stronger resemblance to Tomino's original concept. In addition to the space colonies and the struggle between space and earth, it also reintroduced the concept of newtypes, humans with heightened senses and awareness.
  But the success of GUNDAM WING somehow eluded X; in adhering perhaps too closely to the original concept, the latter series lacked a distinct personality of its own. Had GUNDAM X become the first in the series of spin-offs rather than G GUNDAM, it may have set a much more rigid—and negative—example.
  In the end, while its predecessor WING amassed a large fan base and started punching out its own sequels, GUNDAM X quietly faded from the limelight...
