In contrast, the designs of the enemy mobile suits are taken to the other extreme. In the original GUNDAM, the monoeye system used by the Zeon mobile suits provided them with that trademark menacing look. In WING, however, most of them receive a flat sensor plate, literally rendering them faceless. In addition, they are very utilitarian in appearance. The Leo, the workhorse of the Alliance's army, looks suitably bland and generic. But advanced designs such as the Taurus and the Virgo manage to look realistic yet nifty at the same time. As for the Tallgeese, the eagle-eyed viewer will note that it looks more or less like a Leo, albeit with a face plate and extra hardware to give it "character".

Hajime Katoki is responsible for the design of the enemy mobile suits, including the Leo and the rest of its "twelve zodiacs" brethren, as well as the high-powered Tallgeese. (The lone exception is the Gundam Epyon which, being a Gundam, is also designed by Okawara.) Katoki is a veteran in his own right—his extensive list of credits includes GUNDAM 0083, THE 08th MS TEAM, and both VIRTUAL ON games. But more often than not he winds up playing second fiddle to Okawara and gets stuck with the enemy mecha designs, though he occasionally produces a Gundam here and there, such as the monstrous Gundam GP-03 in 0083. And he does get to design the ace mobile suit Tallgeese, turning it into a Gundam-lookalike towards the end of the TV series with the Tallgeese II, and giving it one last refit with the Tallgeese III in ENDLESS WALTZ.
