STONE OCEAN (JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE PART 6)
by Araki Hirohiko
Started in #1, 2000

Overview: Joline, the daughter of Johtarou (the hero from JOJO part 3), was the passenger in a car that hit and killed a man. She thought everything would be all right, but the lawyer she had hired was paid by her then boyfriend to make sure she was guilty and put her behind bars! Just when her prison sentence was about to begin, she receives an "emergency" keepsake from her father: a locket. Joline accidentally pricks herself with something in the locket (faithful JOJO fans will realize that it was the piece of the Arrow.) Now, Joline is starting to realize something is different about her, and about her bizarre cellmate Gueth who picked up the locket after Joline threw it away...
This Issue—Act 6. Birth of Chorokichi - Joline finds a miniature human inside the dead bird, and instinctively hides it from Gueth. As her mind races, she notices that the surroundings are growing...or rather, that she is shrinking. Her cellmate, when she found the locket, also got pricked by the Arrow and now has the power to shrink humans by making someone lose their calm. Gueth tells Joline that she wants to escape, and Joline is the key. Our belittled heroine is ordered to enter the skin of a dead rat (and become Chorokichi the rat), crawl over to the control switch for the cell doors, and unlock the cell. Joline wonders what is happening around her, and what goes on inside Gueth's head with all of her extreme mood swings.

ROMANCERS
by Asami Yuuko
Started in #44, 1999

Overview: Takara is a Romancer, a being that can make words come to life. In his case, he can make any "lie" a lie in real life. He uses his special talent to help people while searching for others like him, but when he saved his cop friend Wakisaka, his powers were strengthened; but, at the same time, Takara no longer has any control over when he can use his powers.
This Issue—15. Uncontrollable Fever - Takara is not used to his new powers yet, and finds himself getting injured. Meanwhile, a new transfer student comes to Katsuya's class but the student is being badmouthed as someone who doesn't appreciate anything anyone does for him. When Takara spots Niwa, the transfer student, secretly doing something good for a girl who dropped money on the street, he confronts the new kid—but is told to never talk to him again. Niwa walks off, and is confronted by a shadow that attacks with a knife. Takara jumps in just in time to prevent Niwa from being stabbed, and gets hurt in the process. Niwa explains that the shadow was an assassin who he accidentally bumped into once during his "job"... and ever since then, everyone around Niwa had been hurt by the assassin. Takara's fever starts up, and he is able to throw the assailant off. He then tells Niwa that he will act as the boy's bodyguard, and he won't take no for an answer.
