Shopping Guide

The following list isn't meant to be comprehensive by all means. But we have had successful dealings with the stores mentioned, and they should carry most of the items that are reviewed in EX. For a more comprehensive list of stores, please visit the shopping guide on the Anime Web Turnpike.

Also, please don't ask us to sell you the items we review (we are not a store), and please don't ask us to go out and buy the items for you (we are not a delivery service either).

CD Japan
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/

CD Japan is a place to shop for all your import anime DVD and CD needs. They specialize in anime DVDs and CDs, JPOP DVDs and CDs, and they can even get regular Japanese live-action movie DVDs from Japan. They are extremely reliable and their Yen-to-Dollar exchange rate is the actual day-to-day exchange rate, not some arbitrary markup (which is what the majority of other stores do). The end result is that even with shipping charges from Japan, the products you pay for end up cheaper than buying from stores here in the U.S.

Torrance, CA 90501
(310) 212-0777
http://www.mandarakela.com/

This is the first U.S. branch for the legendary Japanese anime "mega-store". Mandarake specializes in second-hand anime items, but don't be put-off: it is because they specialize in 2nd-hand items that you are able to find all the rarest, coolest anime goods. They carry nearly everything you can think of: posters, CDs, LDs, cels, stickers, figures, manga, doujinshi, shitajiki (pencil boards) and more. Some examples of ultra-rare items they have: how about an original cel of Ashitaka from Mononoke Hime signed by Miyazaki Hayao himself? Or an original Claris figure from Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro? Or how about some original, out-of-print poster of Lum from Urusei Yatsura? They also have many new items that customers here in the U.S. are now selling to Mandarake—Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Pokémon, even Godzilla and other kaiju goods. And lastly, they get new shipments of items from Japan all the time, and they rotate out their stock so new stuff shows up.
